Why are we paying Marathon County Sheriff?

After reading the article in the Wausau Daily Herald about Marathon County Sheriff Randy Hoenisch and his lack of work hours logged, makes me wonder if this isn't just another government position that isn't needed?

It may sound ridiculous at first, but, if you have a Sheriff that is only working 22 hours in 6 months, I don't think the position is needed. How is this even possible? I thought the Sheriff would have much more responsibility and need to actually be present for work.

I understand that more than likely, the reason for the lack of hours is due to the Sheriff's wife, Kim Hoenisch, having been charged with criminal acts and removed from her probation officer position, but I think he still needs to be attending work. Many people in this country have to deal with similar situations in their families and they can't just not go to work for 6 months.

Is there a reason why he isn't going to work? Is he involved with the drug activity that his wife has been convicted of? Why isn't he addressing the public, he is an elected official? I would think he would be speaking out, possibly apologizing for his wife, or giving some explanation of his actions.

As the article explains, there is no easy way to remove him from office, but, maybe the People need to call for his resignation. A taxpayer funded job of close to $100,000 a year and he has worked less than 3 full days in 6 months time. Anyone else would definitely be fired.

On the news, it sounded like the Sheriff disputes what was reported by the Wausau paper...

So now he is saying that he has some special key to use when he enters the building so he doesn't use the card that records when he checks in, this sounds like some bs to me.
Why did it take him so long to talk to the media? Is he hiding something (besides his lack of working)?

I'm sure that this is an exageration and there probably is reasons why his time isn't logged. There is field work and I'm sure he is available by phone if not in his office.
Drug addiction is not easy thing to deal with, have some compassion.

I would not at all be surprised if it comes out eventually that he either knew what was going on with his wife, or he also has some issues that haven't been made public yet.
I surely hope that the people show their disgust with this whole ordeal with his wife and now this! She really needs to get a FAIR sentence and I doubt it will happen, but, the more people that voice their opinions, the better chance that she will get what the average person would.
He needs to get to work or quit.

Why didn't he talk to the wausau daily herald but he will talk to the news stations? is this more favoritism or something?

I thought at first he said he had no idea his wife had an addiction, and now he says for over a year he has missed work to HELP her with her addiction!!!!!!!! Yup.... sounds fishy to me.

It isn't a "special key" that's used. It's the same kind of plastic card that's used in companies across the company. I worked for a company for four years, and probably only had to use the card twice, because when one person opens the door, others follow behind.
